These cells are the most powerful available in terms of battery power. Many devices use lithium-ion to provide power.  Not all Li-ions can be recharged. For the purposes of this discussion, however, we will be focusing on those Li-ions that are rechargeable.

However, 18650 lithium-ion cells are longer in both length and width than standard cell batteries. The 18650 numbers refer to the length and circumference. Their power rating is in milliampere-hours just like most rechargeable batteries.

These mAh numbers are often listed with numbers such as 2200, 2600, and 2900 which refer to how much energy they have. The battery's power is proportional to its number.

Many lithium 18650's differ in length. This is due to an additional protection circuit. This circuit prevents the battery from being over-charged as Li-ion batteries can be easily damaged if they are drained below a certain voltage. This protection circuit prevents the battery from being overcharged. 

Special chargers can be purchased online to charge these powerful cells when they are used in an LED flashlight. Many chargers can handle a 18650 battery, as well as many other Li-ion sizes.
